Funny Avatar the Last Airbender Moments

Nothing captured the hearts of fans faster inAvatar: The Last Airbender than the characters. Each character is wonderfully developed with their own flaws and insecurities. Fans can really resonate with them. Despite being a ragtag group of teenagers, fans grow with them as they evolve into the formidable team at the end of Book Three.

Filled with unforgettable moments, it's no wonder The Last Airbender has cemented itself as one of the greatest Western animated shows ever conceived. This loveable group of misfits, who ultimately save the world while struggling with their personal issues and growth, are the basis for how fleshed-out characters should be. ThroughoutThe Last Airbender, there are plenty of hilarious moments because of these characters.

10 Toph Hurling Burning Rocks

Melon Lord with arms stretched out above head

Even though she wasn't there from the beginning of Book One, Toph quickly became a fan favorite. She had the formidable attitude, raw bending ability, and tough exterior the group was lacking. The ingenious dichotomy of having a seemingly frail, blind girl be the world's greatest Earthbender was incredibly well done by the creators.

Despite being on the better side of morality, it's clear that Toph has a bit of a mean streak in her. This is most obvious when they're training to fight the Fire Lord. Toph gets to hurl burning rocks at the team as "Melon Lord" while laughing maniacally. It was a hilarious moment ofThe Last Airbender.

9 What Tea Truly Is

Uncle Iroh looking shocked at Zuko

Other than being a great philosopher, the first thing fans associate with Uncle Iroh is his love for all things tea-related. From his introduction in Book One, to the end ofThe Last Airbenderwhen the heroes are all hanging out in his tea shop, this obsession plays a major role in his life.

As refugees in the Earth Kingdom, Iroh came across a bad cup of tea and called it "nothing more than hot leaf juice." Zuko replied that all tea fits that description. The look on his Uncle's face made it seem like the worst insult in the world.

8 Sokka's Artistic Incapabilities

As the fan-labeled comic relief character, it's no surprise Sokka provides several funny moments. His relationship with Suki had been blossoming from the first season and cultivated into something beautiful by the end.

Despite Sokka's character developing in major ways throughoutThe Last Airbender, there's one area where he's always fallen flat: his artistic abilities. From his "Lost Appa" posters to his mural in the final scene, Sokka has never been dubbed an artist. This was especially true when he decided to build a sand sculpture of Suki. It turned out closer to Jabba The Hutt.

7 Sokka's Scientific Sarcasm

Sokka arguing with a villager

It's always a tough line to toe when the comic relief character also has to be the voice of science. The only other options were an immature preteen or his spiritual sister. Throughout The Last Airbender, Sokka's patience is tested with ignorant comments that make his blood boil.

This is shown perfectly during The Fortuneteller, where Sokka makes it his mission to prove that fortune telling is nothing but superstitious nonsense. He tries to prove that the town can't rely on her predictions. One of the villagers even smugly asks him "can your science explain why it rains?" causing him to exasperatedly answer "Yes! Yes, it can!"

6 Zuko's Awkward Interruption

In The Southern Raiders,Katara is still untrusting of Zuko and Firebenders as a whole. Zuko tries to find a way for him and Katara to be friends. The atmosphere is dark and bleak as Katara is on a revenge rampage for her mother's killer.

After Katara storms off angrily, Zuko searches for Sokka. He finds Sokka in his tent, waiting for Suki. The heavy and sombre atmosphere is broken when Zuko (and fans) stumble across Sokka. He lies seductively in the tent, with lit candles and a rose in his mouth.

5 My Cabbages!

There are some long-running gags throughout The Last Airbender, one is so popular it found its way into theLegend Of Korra sequel. Fans see a cabbage merchant's precious cargo get destroyed multiple times in the aftermath of the battle. It's a telling scene, showing how everyday people are affected during these battles between good and evil.

Becoming somewhat of a tertiary character, the cabbage merchant was so popular with fans that he's been the basis of manyAvatar-related memes. It was always an anticipating watch when he came on screen to see which major character would be the one to ruin his day.

4 Toph Finding The Library

Self-deprecating humor is one of the best, and everyone appreciates an individual that can laugh at themselves. Very tastefully done, Toph makes a handful of blind jokes throughoutThe Last Airbender. The most memorable joke happens when the gang are flying around the desert trying to look for a legendary library. She shouts "There it is!" and gets everyone to look out onto emptiness. When they turn back to her, she does the memorable wave over her eyes.

3 "That's Rough, Buddy"

There's always going to be an awkward phase of transition when your arch-nemesis ends up joining your side and needs to earn your trust. Add in the awkwardness of puberty, and a hilarious outcome can be expected.

Zuko is on an adventure with Sokka. The pair are attempting a prison break to rescue Sokka's father. While they're making their way, the tension is palpable. So, the teenage boys resorted to what they do best - talking about girls. This is where tells Zuko "My first girlfriend turned into the moon." A dumbfounded Zuko can only reply "That's rough, buddy."

2 Drinking Cactus Juice

Appa getting kidnapped was one of the most heart-breaking parts of Book Two. Fans had to watch their heroes wander aimlessly through the desert, which made for some bleak television. The Desertsees Sokka and Momo drank hallucinogenic cactus juice in a moment of much-needed humor. With a hilarious animation and Sokka endorsing a promotional advert for the cactus juice, fans were left in stitches during an otherwise sombre episode.

1 Ember Island Players

Toph laughing while the rest of the gang cringing in theatre seats

The Ember Island Playersmay be considered a filler episode, but it is by far the funniest episode of The Last Airbender. The writers were able to not take themselves seriously. They put their characters face-to-face with their own shortcomings, and viewers welcomed the modesty.

The gang take time off. They watch a theatrical play about themselves, and their characteristics are extremely exaggerated. This causes them to shy away in humiliation. All fans related to Toph in The Ember Island Players, who was having the time of her life.
